The Aesir are the main tribe of Norse gods, dwelling in the fortress-realm of Asgard high in the branches of Yggdrasil. They are led by Odin, the wise and war-hungry Allfather, and his queen Frigg, who knows all fates but speaks none. Their household includes the thunder-god Thor, defender of gods and humans, and the shining Baldr, whose death foreshadows the end of the world.
The Aesir are not a sealed circle. The trickster Loki, of giant blood, lives among them as friend and saboteur, while Freya joins them from the rival Vanir after a truce between the two divine families. Together this restless company faces an unflinching destiny: Ragnarok, where most of them are fated to fall before the world is reborn.
