Enshrouded's Embervale is a survival fantasy world where most of humanity died in the Shroud — a toxic fog that consumed kingdoms, twisted people into monsters, and left only ruins behind. You're a Flameborn, one of the rare few who can resist the corruption, and your name carries the weight of being among the last survivors of a fallen world.
Whether you're naming your co-op character, a solo survival run, or just want something better than the default name, here's how to make it feel like it belongs in Embervale.
The Two Kinds of Names in a Fallen World
Enshrouded's survivors fall into two naming camps: those who carry names from before the Shroud, and those who earned new names after the fall.
Pre-Shroud names feel like remnants of a grander time. Aldric. Lysandra. Thalrian. Solvenna. These are the names of nobles, scholars, craftspeople — people who lived when Embervale was a thriving kingdom with cities and culture. Some survivors cling to these names as proof that civilization existed. Others find them painful reminders of everything that's gone.
Post-Shroud names are survival names. Ashwalker. Emberclaw. Shroudborn. Forgehand. These are names earned in the ruins — named for what you do, what you've survived, or what you've become. A blacksmith who forges weapons from corrupted metal becomes "Emberforge." A scout who navigates the Shroud becomes "Veilstrider." The name is the résumé.
The strongest Enshrouded names often blend both. "Aldric Ashborn" — a noble name corrupted by survival. "Lysandra Emberheart" — old-world elegance with Flameborn identity. The tension between past and present is the whole story.
Class Builds and Combat Identity
Enshrouded doesn't lock you into classes — it's all skill tree customization — but your build still shapes how your name should feel. A warrior tanking Shroud beasts needs a different name than a ranger picking off enemies from range.
- Warrior names hit hard: Ironvar, Grimhold, Thandor. Heavy consonants that sound like armor clanging. These are frontline names.
- Mage names flow and burn: Pyreth, Solarin, Emberael. Arcane syllables with fire undertones — fitting for Flameborn who master flame magic.
- Ranger names move fast: Ashwind, Kaelen, Thornveil. Quick, precise, like arrows cutting through fog.
- Assassin names strike sharp: Nyx, Vex, Shadowvane. Short, dangerous, gone before you see them coming.
- Healer names restore hope: Solace, Miravyn, Lumis. Warm and protective — the ones keeping everyone alive.
Hybrid builds get the most interesting naming opportunities. A warrior-mage might be "Emberforge" — strength with arcane fire. A ranger-healer could be "Thornheart" — swift but nurturing. The name becomes the build summary.
Survival Roles Beyond Combat
Enshrouded is as much about base building, crafting, and exploration as it is about fighting. Your character's role in the survival ecosystem matters for naming.
| Role | Name Energy | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Explorer | Adventurous, mapmaker | Veilstrider, Ashwalker |
| Builder | Constructive, permanent | Stoneshaper, Hearthwright |
| Crafter | Artisan, functional | Forgehand, Rootweaver |
| Fighter | Pure combat focus | Grimward, Bladeborn |
| Solo Survivor | Independent, lone wolf | Ashen, The Wanderer |
| Team Leader | Commanding, rally point | Commander Voss, Aldric the Unbroken |
If you're the player who spends hours building an elaborate base, "Hearthwright" fits better than "Grimward the Slayer." If you're the one always pushing deeper into the Shroud to unlock new map zones, "Veilstrider" tells that story.
The Flameborn Identity
Every player character in Enshrouded is Flameborn — someone who can survive in the Shroud thanks to an internal flame that burns away the corruption. This identity is central to the lore and shows up in a lot of character names.
Flame-adjacent names work for any build: Emberkin, Pyreveil, Ashborne, Flameheart, Cindral. They mark you as special in a world where most people who touch the Shroud die or transform into monsters. The name says "I'm different, I can do what others can't."
Co-op and Multiplayer Naming
Enshrouded supports up to 16 players in co-op, and naming conventions matter when you're building settlements and fighting bosses together. A squad of players named "Destroyer420," "xXShadowXx," and "Bob" breaks immersion. A team called "Grimvald Ironforge," "Lysandra Emberveil," and "Kael the Scout" feels like a real survivor group.
For co-op groups, coordinated naming adds to the experience. Same surname for a family of survivors. Matching Flame-themed names for a Flameborn squad. Role-based names that make callouts easier — "Healer's down!" versus "Solace is down!" — the second one lands better.
The Shroud and Corruption Aesthetics
Some players lean into the dark side. Names that reference the Shroud itself, the corruption, or walking the line between Flameborn and something darker. Shroudveil. Corruptbane. Voidwalker. Ashenmaw.
These names work especially well for edgy builds or characters with darker backstories — maybe a Flameborn who's spent too long in the Shroud, or someone who's seen too much death to stay optimistic. The name reflects the toll survival takes.
Using the Generator
Start with your class build — warrior, mage, ranger, whatever you're speccing into. Then layer your survival role on top. A warrior-crafter plays differently from a warrior-fighter, and the names should reflect that split. Tone matters too — a serious survival playthrough versus a lighthearted co-op run with friends need different naming energy.
If you're running multiple characters (solo save, co-op save, challenge run), generate across different class/role combos to see how the names shift. Enshrouded's flexible skill tree means you can rebuild characters midgame, but the name locks you into an identity from the start.
